Joe Wainhaus is the Executive Director of Avenues Recovery Center at South Bend. Currently living in South Bend, Indiana but native to Chicago, Joe pursued his studies at Ohr Sameach Judaic College, where he earned a First Talmudic Degree. His passion for addiction treatment stems from his belief in second chances and the transformative power of recovery. Joe is inspired by the potential of every individual to discover new opportunities and rebuild their lives in ways they might have never imagined. Driven by a commitment to always do what’s right and see the best in others, Joe approaches his work with a heart-centered perspective that emphasizes respect and understanding for each person's unique journey. He strongly believes that those who find themselves in positions to help others are there for a reason, and he strives to fulfill this purpose daily.

Joe feels there’s a unique spirit among those who work in addiction treatment—a common drive that’s rooted in compassion, resilience, and a desire to make a positive impact. For Joe, coming to work each day means contributing to a supportive team that is committed to doing good for others and continually creating ripples of positive change in the world.

Outside of his work, Joe enjoys spending time with his family and exploring new places through travel and sightseeing. He also loves cheering on his favorite football team.

Anjenette Hasse, MA, LMHC, LCAC is the clinical director of Avenues Recovery Center at South Bend. With  an extensive background and education in the field of mental health, Anjenette brings a wealth of passion and personal connection to her role as Clinical Director. Inspired by family and personal experiences, she found her calling in the recovery field during the early days of her career. Watching people regain their vitality and sense of purpose after being lost in despair remains a profound and driving force of inspiration for her.
 Anjenette is excited about the opportunity to serve her community and the privilege of working alongside an exceptional team. She takes immense pride in the dedication of her colleagues, who welcome clients with compassion, offer paths to healing, and exemplify a new way of living.
When she isn’t at work, Anjenette finds solace in the natural beauty of her surroundings, whether walking near fields or lakes. She also loves visiting her daughter in Chicago whenever possible! She rarely cooks, but makes her southern granny's mouthwatering chocolate gravy and biscuits each Christmas in keeping with family tradition:)
An avid coffee enthusiast, her go-to order is a sugar-free vanilla latte with a splash of caramel.(She goes for hot jasmine tea if it's Chinese night, though!).

Anjenette's warmth and vision inspire her team and those she serves, making her an invaluable leader in the recovery journey.

Carly Geoghan serves as the Operations Manager at Avenues Recovery Center at South Bend. As proud native of South Bend, Indiana, she joined the recovery field with a deeply personal connection and clear purpose. Sheltered from the realities of addiction in her youth, Carly found herself facing this challenge when she discovered her husband's substance use disorder shortly after their marriage in 2020. Determined to understand and support him, she immersed herself in the field of addiction recovery. This journey not only strengthened her marriage—her husband has celebrated over 2.5 years of sobriety! —but also ignited a passion for raising awareness about addiction and its impact. Carly is driven to bridge the knowledge gap and combat societal stigma around this growing crisis.

At Avenues of South Bend, Carly is energized by the incredible dedication of the team, who consistently bring the organization's philosophy and mission to life. As a lifelong resident of South Bend, she is honored to contribute to the transformative work happening in her community. She is committed to helping her neighbors reclaim their lives and futures.

In her downtime, Carly enjoys the peace and escape found in a good book. She also cherishes quality time with her children, embracing creative pursuits like crafts and outdoor adventures. A passionate animal lover, Carly has built a sanctuary for rescued pets, including 16 guinea pigs, two rescued cats, and two adopted dogs, much to her husband’s amazement.

Kathaleen Thomas serves as the nurse practitioner at Avenues Recovery Center at South Bend. Hailing from Laporte, Indiana, Kathaleen has dedicated her career to making a difference in healthcare. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Indiana University and went on to achieve her Master’s in Nursing from Valparaiso University.

With a passion for addiction medicine, Kathaleen finds deep fulfillment in working within a field often overlooked in healthcare. She is driven by the opportunity to help clients navigate their recovery journeys, witnessing the transformative power of sobriety and celebrating their special milestones along the way.

Kathaleen’s commitment to service extends beyond her role in healthcare. She is a proud navy veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years, embodying dedication and resilience throughout her military career.

Outside of her professional life, Kathaleen cherishes time with her family. She enjoys skiing, horseback riding, and embracing moments of connection and adventure.
