Read bio

Josette Brooks serves as a primary counselor at Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore. Originally from New Jersey, her journey into the helping profession began through a unique path in real estate. She learned the ropes of real estate management while assisting her neighborhood friends with rental units. This ultimately led her to become a licensed realtor from 1999 to 2011, after attending Weichert School for Real Estate in Princeton, NJ.

Josette's passion for helping others, particularly those struggling with addiction, led her to further her education. She earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, MD, in 2015. She also completed 20 credits through a hybrid program at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, School of Social Sciences, and Salisbury University.

In 2011, Josette's family moved permanently to Somerset County, Maryland, a place they frequently visited during summers and holidays. Inspired by her personal experiences and motivated by her son's struggles with substance use and incarceration, Josette and her son aspired to own and operate Re-entry Safe Homes for ex-offenders. Tragically, her son passed away in 2016 due to substance use and multiple incarcerations.

Josette chose to remain in the helping profession to honor her son's memory and make a difference in the lives of those facing similar challenges.
