How do I know if I need rehab for addiction?

It’s always hard to be an objective judge of your own behavior. But a good way to see if you suffer from a substance use disorder would be by seeing if you check any of these boxes:

  • Drugs/alcohol have become a priority in your life
  • You need more of the substance to achieve the desired result, or you experience withdrawal symptoms when you stop using drugs/alcohol
  • You find yourself lying about and hiding the amount you drink or use drugs
  • You never seem to have any money in your pocket
  • You’ve engaged in risky and/or unlawful behaviors while under the influence or to obtain alcohol or drugs
  • Some of your family members and friends have noticed a change in you, and expressed concern
  • You took the DSM-5 evaluation and met over three of the criteria

If any of these points sound familiar to you, you may have a substance use disorder and can benefit from qualified treatment.

What kinds of addictions does Avenues Recovery rehab treat?

Drug and alcohol rehab programs usually address a wide variety of addictions. Avenues Recovery Center is equipped to treat any and all substance addictions, including but not limited to: alcohol, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, narcotics, inhalants, opioids, cannabinoids, and prescription drugs.

Can you go to rehab for weed?

Yes. Although marijuana is viewed as a relatively harmless recreational substance, it can develop into a serious addiction with many harmful physical and mental effects, and therefore requires rehab.

Does Avenues Recovery rehab treat co-occurring disorders?

  • Yes. A co-occurring disorder refers to when a person has two or more mental health disorder(s) and substance use disorder(s).
  • Many individuals with substance use disorders also suffer from co-occurring mental health challenges.
  • Co-occurring problems can be both a direct and indirect result of continued use and can persist even after substance use is terminated.

At Avenues Recovery, one of our core beliefs is that in order for treatment to be successful, both disorders must be treated simultaneously. Avenues Recovery’s treatment program includes a comprehensive dual-diagnosis curriculum, which helps to identify and thoroughly treat all co-occurring disorders.

Is Avenues Recovery a co-ed rehab program?

Yes, Avenues Recovery Center offers treatment to all men and women over 18 years of age. However, sleeping accommodations and many group therapy sessions are always separated by gender.

We work constantly to maintain a safe, respectful and healing environment for all our clients.

Do you accept couples?

No. Avenues Recovery Center does not allow a husband and wife to receive treatment simultaneously at the same treatment center, as this can be very detrimental to the recovery process. However, we welcome couples to enter treatment at two separate Avenues Recovery facilities at any time!

Do you accept pregnant women?

Yes! Pregnant women are welcome to receive treatment at Avenues Recovery’s facilities, provided there are no medical complications that we could not safely treat in our facilities. Additionally, we do not typically accept patients in their third trimester

Can you check yourself out of rehab?

If you’re wondering “can a rehab center keep you against your will?”, the answer is no. Even when you enter a treatment center, you remain a free person with the right to self-determination. Most rehabs will strongly encourage you to stay for the full course of treatment since that is the only way to achieve sustainable sobriety, but technically you can leave rehab whenever you want

What should I bring to rehab?

Because substance abuse disorder is considered a valid and serious health condition, in many states, job leave to attend rehab is covered by the FMLA. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will grant you up to 12 weeks (about 3 months) of unpaid, job and benefits–protected leave to attend addiction rehab.

At Avenues, every client is assigned a personal case manager to ensure that they benefit from any government programs that might be available to them.

Can I go to rehab instead of going to jail?

If you are facing a prison sentence due to your substance use and/or drug dealing, you may be able to shorten or avoid your sentence altogether by agreeing to attend a drug and alcohol rehab program. Speak to your attorney to find out if this might be an option for you.

Does Avenues offer transportation to rehab?

Yes! If you have no way of getting to the Avenues treatment center you would like to attend, our admissions department will work to arrange convenient and comfortable transportation for you as soon as possible.

How do I get admitted to rehab?

Great question! The first step would be to call our admissions department at 888-683-0333, or to contact us via a form on our websiteOur friendly, skilled admissions reps will guide you to the option best suited to you, and answer any questions you may have.

How long does it take to overcome an addiction?

Addiction is a chronic disease which takes a lifetime of work to fully overcome. In terms of treatment, however, research has shown that it takes at least six to nine months for the brain to fully heal from the damage caused by addiction. Once treatment is complete, it takes two to five years of consistent sobriety to break all negative habits and cement this lifestyle change for good.

Does Avenues offer more than 30 days of rehab?

Yes. At Avenues, length of stay is determined based on each client’s unique situation and needs. Avenues offers a full continuum of care – spanning detox, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programming – and can accommodate residential stays of up to a few months. Additionally, Avenues offers extended  care options for as long as each client needs.

Can detoxing make you sick?

Yes. Unfortunately, nausea, headaches, vomiting, and tremors very commonly accompany  the detox process. Can detoxing cause diarrhea? Yes, diarrhea is a common symptom too. This is why it is always recommended to detox in a licensed detox center, where you will be under careful medical supervision and made as comfortable as possible

Can I have a phone or computer while in rehab?

Every rehab program will have its own cell phone and computer policy. However, many treatment centers do have a “blackout period” where some time is allotted without a phone or computer. This enables clients to disconnect from the world, recharge their batteries, and focus inwardly on themselves and their recovery.

This distraction-free time can give the client a huge advantage as they begin to meet themselves and develop critical coping skills for life.

What should I bring to rehab?

When coming to rehab, pack as though you're planning for a 2 - week stay away from home. Stick with the basics, including:

  • Comfortable, seasonally appropriate clothing
  • 1 - 2 pairs of sneakers or walking shoes
  • Alcohol-free toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, soap/ body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, safety razors, and shaving cream.
  • Government ID and health insurance card
  • Personal medications
  • Pocket money

  • Any sharp objects (i.e. razors, scissors, sewing needles etc.)
  • Pornography

What can you bring to someone in rehab?

Yes. Although smoking rules will vary from one rehab to another, every Avenues facility has designated outdoor smoking areas where clients are free to relax whenever they are not in group or session. In addition, our facilities are all equipped with vending machines where clients can purchase vapes if they wish.

We also provide smoking cessation options for clients who are interested.

What is living in a rehab facility like?

While at a rehab facility, you will live in a pleasant residential, communal-style building with round-the-clock medical supervision. You’ll probably share a bedroom and bathroom with one or two other people. What do you do in drug and alcohol rehab? You'll engage in individual and group therapy sessions and various recreational and community activities throughout the day. Three meals and snacks will be served daily, and you’ll also have time to relax, unwind, and socialize with your fellow rehab attendees.

Will I share a room with someone while in rehab?

Yes. Because drug and alcohol rehabs usually feature communal style living arrangements, in most rehabs, you will likely share a bedroom with one or two fellow clients. Bathrooms are usually shared as well.

Can I talk to my loved ones during rehab?

Yes. Although every rehab has its own phone policy, generally, every addiction rehab will allow clients the use of a phone to speak to their loved ones at least once a week. At Avenues, clients can speak to their loved ones as often as necessary, as deemed by their personal counselor.

Can you visit people in rehab?

Every rehab center will have its own visitation policy, so be sure to find out and know before you go!

Every Avenues Recovery facility has its own visitation policy as well, so please reach out to the facility you are interested in to find out more. Aside from standard visits, family members are warmly encouraged to be a part of the treatment process, and are welcome to participate in family and/or couple counseling sessions at the facility at any time!

Can I look for a job while in rehab?

In most rehab programs, while attending residential treatment, you will be busy engaging in therapy for most of the day and will not yet seek a job. At Avenues, clients who graduate residential treatment to our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) program are strongly encouraged to seek a job and are given personal guidance and support throughout the entire workforce re-entry process.

Can I have a car while in rehab?

Yes. Once clients have graduated residential treatment and are in our Intensive Outpatient program, with guidance and recommendation from their primary therapist, they may begin to work on restoring their license and regaining possession of their car.

What happens once you come out of rehab?

Once you graduate addiction rehab, there are many options ahead of you. Some people choose to continue to a sober living home to reinforce and strengthen their recovery lifestyle. Others, however, choose to return home and resume normal life while still engaging in outpatient therapy.

Whatever the case is, continued involvement in a 12-Step program and aftercare and a strong connection to a recovery community is critical to ensuring that your sobriety sticks long-term after you’ve completed treatment.

Does Avenues Recovery offer outpatient treatment or sober living?

While Avenues does not offer sober living services, many of our facilities partner with boutique sober living homes nearby. This gives clients in our step-down programs the ability to engage in treatment while living in a warm, home-like environment close by!

Does Avenues Recovery help set you up with aftercare?

Absolutely. At Avenues, aftercare/ discharge planning begins at intake! Throughout a client’s stay, the treatment and case management teams work together to create a realistic, sustainable aftercare plan that will help the client stay strong in their sobriety for years to come. Every client is set up with a primary care physician, therapist, housing (if necessary) and local support group before they are discharged.

Will Avenues Recovery help you look for a job after rehab?

Yes! In our step-down levels of care, such as our Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient programs, a strong focus is placed on workforce re-entry and life skills. Clients are coached throughout the application and employment process – including resume-building, practice interviews, and counseling throughout.

How effective is drug rehab in the long term?

Inpatient addiction rehab is scientifically proven to yield the most powerful, long-lasting results. Many people try quitting on their own – and some may be successful – but most will fail repeatedly. For example, if you’re wondering how to quit drinking without rehab, remember that it’s not recommended since most people who try will fail.

In contrast, a treatment center will provide you with a safe and structured environment, targeted therapy, and a warm community that will support you as you begin your recovery journey - and long after.

How many people relapse after rehab?

An exact number is unknown. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the relapse rate of drug addiction lies between 40% and 60%, but will be significantly higher for those who do not attend rehab and try to get sober on their own. Our alumni numbers prove that rehab can truly be successful!

Does drug rehab go on your record?

If you’re wondering “does drug rehab show up on a background check?”, the answer is no. Although there is no shame in getting the help you need, both the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) protect the confidentiality of individuals in recovery

How much does drug and alcohol rehab cost?

The cost of drug and alcohol rehab depends on a variety of factors, such as the type and length of treatment, the program’s location, and the amenities offered. Based on this, the cost of treatment can range anywhere from $250 to $2,000 per day.

However, some rehabs may be covered by insurance, which means that you may have to pay little or nothing at all. Avenues Recovery Center is in contract with most government and commercial insurance plans. Click here to verify your insurance coverage, or reach out to our knowledgeable admissions team to learn more.
