Avenues Recovery Center was visited by local news station WSBT 22 News at the open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony of their newest facility in South Bend, Indiana.

Their leadership chatted with Gabbi Lumma, WSBT news representative, and shared with her their intention to change the troubled narrative written by the shuttered Praxis by Landmark facility next door.

Gabbi shared that Avenues is focusing on setting themselves apart in the community and providing positive and uplifting experiences for their clients. She had the opportunity to connect with some event attendees, including St. Joseph County Sheriff Bill Redman, Avenues CEO Hudi Alter, and alumni of Avenues at South Bend.

"We’ve had several conversations with the new administration of Avenues, and they were just as much concerned as we were about moving into this facility and beginning their business here," said Bill Redman (D), St. Joseph County Sheriff.

Sheriff Redman has assured neighboring businesses of his conversations with Avenues and their promise as well.

Hudi Alter, CEO of Avenues Recovery, says Avenues is a totally unrelated entity from Praxis and the organization is excited to show the community how they are different.

"I think that the proof will be in the pudding. People will see we’re different. We’re running a really good operation. We have a good clinical and medical program. The patients are engaged and hopefully we have a supportive community," said Alter. "I really hope that the community appreciates us as they’ve done in every other city that we’re in, and it all works out well."

David Weese, a fresh alumnus of Avenues Recovery Center at South Bend, tells WSBT 22 no day at Avenues was a bad one.

"They stuck with me, they pushed me to be better than I was allowing myself to be. So, I can’t even say there were any bad days. Like, every single day just got better and better and better," he said.

The facility is now welcoming those struggling with addiction for in-patient care.
