Two men from Haverhill, Massachusetts, were arrested last Friday after being accused of trafficking large quantities of fentanyl and crack cocaine in New Hampshire. The incident occurred on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth when New Hampshire State Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding.

The Patch news site reported that during the stop, authorities allege that 43-year-old Raymundo DeJesus, the passenger of the vehicle, attempted to discard bags containing narcotics from the window. State Police Troopers believe DeJesus was trying to conceal the drugs, an act that was caught on a trooper’s dash camera. The vehicle’s driver, 33-year-old Andres Carpio, was also implicated in the drug trafficking incident.

Following the traffic stop, an investigation led to the seizure of over 200 grams of fentanyl and approximately 200 grams of crack cocaine from the vehicle. Both drugs are highly dangerous and have contributed significantly to the ongoing opioid crisis across the country. Fentanyl, in particular, has become a leading cause of overdose deaths, making the discovery of such a large quantity even more alarming.

DeJesus and Carpio were charged with possession of narcotic drugs with intent to distribute. Additionally, DeJesus faced a charge of falsifying physical evidence for his attempt to dispose of the narcotics during the traffic stop. Both men were released on personal recognizance and are scheduled to appear in Portsmouth District Court for an arraignment on January 27, 2025.

This bust highlights the ongoing efforts of New Hampshire law enforcement to combat the illegal drug trade, particularly the distribution of deadly substances like fentanyl and crack cocaine. While the charges are serious, the investigation into the case remains open, and additional charges may be added as more information comes to light.

The arrest of DeJesus and Carpio is another significant step in the ongoing fight against illegal drugs in the state. Authorities continue to work diligently to address the influx of narcotics and ensure that those involved in trafficking such dangerous substances face legal consequences.
