In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a beacon of hope shines through the efforts of Michelle Perck, affectionately known as Mama Michelle. Her journey from addiction to recovery has inspired her to launch "M.O.M.S Booksacks," a compassionate initiative aimed at supporting individuals battling addiction. Mama Michelle, now sober for three and a half years, recalls how her own struggles motivated her to start this program, named after her reputation for always having snacks in her backpack for those in need during her time at an addiction recovery center.

M.O.M.S Booksacks seeks to provide essential items like toiletries, clothes, and snacks to individuals in active addiction. Michelle's dedication stems from personal experience and the support of her late best friend Frankie, who played a pivotal role in her recovery journey. Despite Frankie's passing, Michelle remains steadfast in her mission to be a source of comfort and support to others facing similar challenges.

Partnering with local organizations like the Grove Recovery Center, M.O.M.S Booksacks aims to make a significant impact. Rick Morton from the center emphasizes the crucial role these backpacks play, providing basic necessities that are often inaccessible to those in recovery programs. With nearly 100 backpacks prepared so far, the initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also offers resources to connect individuals with detox centers, rehab facilities, and essential services like Medicaid.

The community is invited to support this cause by donating items at the Gap Outlet in Tanger Mall, Gonzales. Through M.O.M.S Booksacks, Michelle Perck continues to prove that recovery is not just about personal triumph but also about extending a helping hand to others in their darkest moments.
