A major drug bust in Baton Rouge has led to the seizure of thousands of lethal doses of fentanyl, along with a significant amount of other dangerous narcotics. On January 14, 2025, Chadwick Chisholm, a 55-year-old suspected fentanyl dealer, was arrested by deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO). His arrest comes after an extensive investigation that spanned several months, culminating in the discovery of a range of illicit substances, firearms, and cash.
According to WAFB news, Chisholm had been under investigation by the EBRSO since November 2024. Deputies conducted extensive surveillance of his residence on North Magna Carta Place in Baton Rouge, where they observed suspicious activity and made a controlled purchase of fentanyl from him. This investigation led to the execution of a search warrant on January 14, which resulted in Chisholm’s arrest and the seizure of drugs, firearms, and significant amounts of cash.
The scale of the drugs seized during this operation is staggering. Deputies confiscated over 4.5 pounds of fentanyl, including 1,081 dosage units of pressed fentanyl pills, equating to more than 21,000 lethal doses. The opioid epidemic continues to be a major public health crisis, and fentanyl's potency makes even small amounts deadly. In addition to fentanyl, authorities found a variety of other dangerous drugs, including 1.52 pounds of black tar heroin (equivalent to nearly 7,000 lethal doses), 1.2 pounds of powder cocaine, 1.12 ounces of crack cocaine, 7.93 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, 2.42 pounds of marijuana, as well as alprazolam (Xanax) pills, amphetamines, and tramadol. Also seized were various drug paraphernalia items, including hydraulic narcotics presses, blenders with fentanyl residue, digital scales, and a vacuum sealer with plastic baggies, suggesting that Chisholm was operating a sophisticated drug distribution operation.
In addition to the drugs, deputies found two firearms during the search: a SCCY CPX-2 semiauto 9mm handgun and a Smith & Wesson .357 caliber revolver. Both firearms were reportedly purchased off the street. Authorities also seized $83,736 in cash, likely proceeds from the drug sales.
Chisholm is no stranger to law enforcement. His criminal record includes multiple drug-related arrests, dating back to the early 1990s. In fact, Chisholm was convicted in 1994 for conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and was sentenced to nearly 25 years in federal prison. He was released from federal prison before allegedly resuming his illegal activities, with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reporting that he continued to sell narcotics following his release.
This bust highlights the ongoing struggle against the opioid crisis, particularly the rise of fentanyl, which is far more potent than heroin or cocaine. Even a tiny amount can be deadly, and fentanyl-related overdoses have become a leading cause of death in many communities. By taking Chisholm off the streets, law enforcement has potentially saved hundreds of lives in Baton Rouge and beyond.
