In a significant drug bust on Friday, January 10, 2025, Lafayette Police seized over 100 pounds of marijuana, a stolen firearm, and a large sum of cash at a residence on St. James Drive in Lafayette. The operation, carried out by narcotics agents, culminated in the arrest of 43-year-old Devonte J. Davis, a Lafayette resident.

The search warrant, which followed a detailed investigation into drug-related activity, led authorities to uncover a staggering array of illicit substances and drug paraphernalia. Among the items seized were 117 pounds of marijuana, 1,304 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 1,888 grams of THC wax, over a thousand THC cartridges, 264 packages of THC-infused gummies, and 2,900 THC cigarettes. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at over $1.4 million.

In addition to the drugs, police also recovered $74,069 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, and a stolen Glock 22 handgun. This discovery underscores the serious nature of the bust, as the presence of a firearm in a drug operation is a significant concern for public safety.

According to KLFY news, Davis was arrested at the scene without incident and is facing multiple charges, including six counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of money derived from drug proceeds. He is currently being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a bond of $4.4 million.

This bust is a part of ongoing efforts by Lafayette Police to address the growing concerns surrounding drug trafficking and distribution in the area. With narcotics-related crimes on the rise, local authorities remain committed to cracking down on illegal drug operations that endanger the community.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and more arrests may follow. In the meantime, the public is reminded to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement to help combat the ongoing drug crisis.
